Newcomerstown youth third in MLB Junior Home Run Derby Regional

Newcomerstown's Gavin Smith (right) finished third in the MLB Junior Home Run Derby Midwest Regional competition held in Chicago recently. The 13-year-old Smith finished second in the first round of about 70 kids and advanced to the final four where he ended up finishing third overall going against kids as old as 15 at the time of the event. Smith started by winning a home run derby in Columbus to advance to the Midwest Regional. Smith goes to Newcomerstown Middle School and is in the 8th grade.
