Jesy Nelson loses more than 50,000 Instagram followers after Nicki Minaj livestream

Jesy Nelson’s Instagram account has taken a hit following last week’s controversy.

The 30-year-old lost over 50,000 followers in a matter of days, according to Social Blade. The exodus started on Sunday when 7,765 unfollowed the solo artist, 10,815 dropped off on Monday, followed by a decline of 32,800 followers across Tuesday and Wednesday.

Nelson dropped her debut single, Boyz, featuring Nicki Minaj on Friday, which created much backlash. The singer was accused of “Blackfishing” – a term to describe a non-black person using hair and makeup to appear racially ambiguous.

This led to leaked screenshots that shown an alleged conversation between user @NoHun_ and Little Mix band member, Leigh-Ann Pinnock. Pinnock accused Nelson of blocking the band on social media and suggested that the user should “do a video about her being a Blackfish instead.”

While there are rumours that the screenshots were fake, Nicki Minaj jumped on a collaborative Instagram Live with Nelson to address the claims, where she shared some harsh words and accused Pinnock of jealousy.

“Sweetheart, take them messages and shove them up your ass. Don’t come out to try and ruin anyone, let her enjoy this time,” the rapper said.

“Print them text messages out, buss that ass open and shove it up your motherf***ing ass.”

After ten years of friendship, the original Little Mix member announced she was leaving the band due to medical reasons late last year.

Nelson said in a statement: “The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.”

“There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focussing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process.”
