Real Madrid have a long list of possible midfield targets in the 2022 summer transfer window, should they decide to sign someone to bolster that area of the pitch.

And Madridistas have every reason to believe that Florentino Perez will try for a notable player in the middle of the park, considering how hobbled and ineffective the midfield has surprisingly been in 2021-2022. Coming into the season, we knew depth would be an issue, even with the signing of Eduardo Camavinga, and that has indeed been the case.

Paul Pogba is the likely dream target for Los Blancos, seeing as how he will be a free agent in 2022. But he could decide to remain with Manchester United, with the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo potentially being a factor in that decision.

If Real Madrid want an alternative, specifically someone younger who can play defense, then Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni looks like an ideal solution.

Real Madrid may not be discouraged by Tchouameni’s initial price tag

He could be pricy, as Monaco reportedly want 60 million euros for the 21-year-old amidst interest from Los Blancos and notable Premier League clubs.

But according to a report from MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz, Real Madrid are not discouraged by the situation. They reportedly will fight with all of these clubs to sign Tchouameni, because he is the kind of dynamic, well-rounded defensive midfielder they are looking for.

There are rumblings Real Madrid dream of Pogba setting up Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Pogba would actually be cheaper as a free signing. But logically, Tchouameni, with his defensive covering and ball-carrying, may be the better fit. He has even been mentioned as a possible long-term replacement for Casemiro, whose start to the 2021-2022 season has been shockingly poor.

Tchouameni has been on Real’s radar for years. Much like the Camavinga case, it took Real a while before they got their man from Ligue 1. Although Tchouameni will be tougher to require as a Monaco player with more interest and a longer contract, it appears Los Blancos are not discouraged by a transfer battle ahead.

Who is the competition for Tchouameni? Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all been linked to the young up-and-coming midfielder, who will surely be near the top of the midfield wishlist for a handful of clubs around Europe. It appears Real are very much included on this list of high-profile clubs. And for good reason.
