Today’s Penn State football headlines feature ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit’s thoughts on the Lions following their first loss, plus thoughts from StateCollege.com’s Ben Jones on Iowa fans booing injuries at Kinnick Stadium.

Herbstreit was asked this week for the team he thought was the best in the Big Ten after six full weeks of the football season. Iowa carries the highest national rankings at No. 2 and has a win over the Nittany Lions, but Herbstreit said he still believes Penn State could be the Big Ten’s best.

The Lions held a 17-3 lead over the Hawkeyes in the second quarter that slipped away when Sean Clifford was injured and the offense stalled out.

Jones weighed in with a column on the ongoing disagreement between Penn State fans and Iowa fans (and coaches) about the suspicion of fake Lions injuries last Saturday. Jones is quick to point out that Hawkeyes fans also booed when the ball fell off the tee on kickoffs, and they booed early in the game -- perhaps before reasonable suspicion could be raised -- when defensive tackle P.J. Mustipher suffered an injury that ultimately ended his night.

James Franklin also spent five-plus minutes Wednesday night reading prepared remarks on the fake injury madness.
