REVEALED: Liverpool have the best record of any Premier League side after the international break with Man City following closely behind... but Newcastle's Saudi owners will be concerned to learn their new team are bottom of the pile!

Liverpool have the strongest record of any Premier League team when returning to domestic action from the international break, statistics show. 

Top flight sides are gearing up to weekly games once again after turning out for their countries in World Cup qualifiers and Nations League matches over the past two weeks, with fans set to be delighted they can get stuck into some of the biggest clashes between the top teams after a brief hiatus.

Some teams can find it tough to get their rhythm back after the break, with international games potentially causing injury problems and the possibility of players returning fatigued. A lack of squad depth will also hurt teams, but Liverpool have shown they have no issues getting back into the swing of things. 

The Reds lead the standings for the best record after players return from international duty, with a win rate of 80 per cent - including 10 wins, two draws and zero losses in figures since the 2018-19 season, provided by bettingexpert.

Liverpool face a trip to Watford to face the struggling Hornets on Saturday, in a game that will be Claudio Ranieri's first match in charge, and they will fancy their chances having never suffered a defeat after the break in ten matches.

Coach Jurgen Klopp always keeps his players in pristine condition and has clearly shown he ensures they return and get back into the best shape possible. His rival Pep Guardiola has the second best record after the international break - also enjoying a 80 per cent win rate with Manchester City.

However, the reigning Premier League champions have lost two more games and therefore have 24 points in the same period - two less than the Reds.

The next best challengers to Liverpool and City were Chelsea and Manchester United - both on a win rate of 60 per cent. Chelsea head to in-form Brentford this weekend, while United travel to Leicester City, whose win rate after the international break stands at just 30 per cent - including six defeats.

The two teams had both won six games each, though United fared slightly better than the Blues, with three draws and just one loss compared to Chelsea's one draw and three losses - putting them on 19 points across the ten games.

North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are not the quickest starters after resuming Premier League action. The two teams had just a 40 per cent success rate when returning from the break with an identical record of four wins, three draws and three losses. 

That was bettered by Wolves and Everton, who had win rates of 50 per cent. 

The teams who should be concerned going into this batch of matches are Crystal Palace, Burnley, Brighton and Newcastle.

All four of those clubs had a 20 per cent win rate, except Brighton - whose record stood at just 10 per cent. However, the Seagulls were not bottom of the standings. That unwanted accolade went to Newcastle, who end up below them on seven points thanks to goal difference.

The Magpies, who have just been taken over in a £300m deal by Saudi-led group PIF - making them one of the richest teams on Earth - face Tottenham in the first game of their new owners' tenure this weekend.

But the new board may be concerned to find out that their side have won just two games that come after the international break since 2018-19, with one draw and seven defeats. 

The game against Spurs is set to bring a jubilant atmosphere at St James' Park as fans revoice over the new takeover and departure of previous owner Mike Ashley, and the team will be eager to put on a show despite that dismal record.
