No news is ... bad news?
That’s what ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney suggested Thursday with respect to the New York Yankees.
The fact that the Yankees didn’t announce the resolution to their managerial/staff situation yesterday, on an off-day in the postseason, is a hint at all of the complicating factors -- the expiration of Aaron Boone’s contract looming, possible staff changes.

Boone just completed his fourth season as Yankees manager. The club qualified for the postseason each year, but the Yankees lost to the Boston Red Sox last week in the American League Wild-Card game.
The Yankees haven’t won (or even appeared in) the World Series since 2009, so pressure is mounting for general manager Brian Cashman, who could be on the hot seat himself.
Aside from the front office drama, the Yankees face several roster questions:
Do they spend big for a free-agent shortstop?
What about pitching help, with both the starting rotation and bullpen needing upgrades?
Who’s on first: Luke Voit, or does the team ante up to re-sign Anthony Rizzo?
Is it this the year the team gives right fielder Aaron Judge a long-term contract extension?
Chances are Cashman and Boone will be the ones answering those questions. But if they get the answers wrong, they both could find themselves paying the price.
