Lake Township Trustee Steve Miller

Steve Miller has spent his entire life in Lake Township outside of the years when he went away to college. He has been married to his wife, Holly, for 21 years. They have four children: Cierra 21, Koby 18, Taelor 16 and Braidon, 15.  The family has two German shepherds, Braxton and Griffin, and a cat named Scarlet.

Miller recently shared other details about himself, his life and his work as a Lake Township Trustee.

Do your children attend Lake Local Schools, and what grades?

Cierra lives in Texas. Koby graduated from Lake and started college at Lawrence Technological University. Taelor is a junior at Lake. Braidon is a freshman at Lake Center Christian.

Did you graduate Lake Local Schools and if not, where did you graduate high school?

I graduated from Lake High School in 1995. I attended The Ohio State University for two years.

What do you do for a living and detail what that job asks of you such as travel, etc?

I own Rembrandt Homes, a local home building company based out of North Canton.  I am fortunate that my job rarely requires me to travel out of town much.

How long have you been a Lake Township Trustee?

I am completing my last year of a four-year term. I decided to run for another term and will be on the ballot in November for second four-year term.

What drew you to becoming a trustee?

I wanted to ensure that our local government was doing all it could to help facilitate local business and to partner with those businesses to push a long-term vision for what Lake Township can be.

What has been your favorite part of being a trustee?

Getting to know the people that work for Lake Township. Before I was in my role as trustee, I took so much for granted. I see know how many people it takes to get the job of the Township done. We have some of the best, most qualified staff in the State. I enjoy trying to help them in any way I can to make their tasks as simple as possible. It has been a pleasure watching them do the great work that they do.

What has been some of the challenges of being a trustee?

Government always seems to be a bit slower than the private sector. It takes longer to get things then it does in my private business where I can make a decision and implement it immediately. Obviously, there are more processes in government to ensure the protection of the taxpayers, but those processes took some getting used to. It can be frustrating when I want to help a resident with an issue they are having but we as trustees don’t have the authority to do what needs to be done.

Name three of your favorite places, restaurants, stores, etc in Lake Township.

I love Quail Hollow. We walk our dogs there. It’s beautiful. I’m a huge fan of Carlo’s. I love their pizza and Stromboli. My guilty pleasure is Peace Love and Little Donuts.

What are your favorite hobbies or what do you do in your spare time?

My number one hobby is golf. I love to play any chance I get. My family and I also enjoy boating.

Name three fun facts that residents may not know about you?

I’m a huge Ohio State football fan. My wife and I adopted three of our four children.  With the help of my kids (and YouTube), I learned how to wake surf this summer.
