'There's Something Going On There' - Roy Keane Claims Pep Guardiola 'Bust-Up' With Man City Star

'There's Something Going On There' - Roy Keane Claims Pep Guardiola 'Bust-Up' With Man City Star

Roy Keane says Gareth Southgate is a "big fan" of Raheem Sterling, irrespective of his situation at Manchester City and with Pep Guardiola.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane claims that Raheem Sterling has “obviously [had] some bust-up” with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Sterling arrived at City in 2015 and has lifted three Premier League titles, four League Cups and an FA Cup during his time at the Etihad.

The 26-year-old winger, who has made over 300 appearances for City, has thrived under Guardiola’s tutelage and established himself as a crucial part of the Spaniard’s squad.

Sterling has made 10 appearances across all competitions this season, but he has seen his playing time reduced with the arrival of Jack Grealish.

The England international, whose contract will expire in 2023, has been linked with Barcelona, Arsenal and Newcastle ahead of a potential City exit.

Southgate started the City winger in England’s 1-1 draw with Hungary in their World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Tuesday.

Keane admitted that the England boss is a “big fan” of Sterling, but he isn’t convinced with Guardiola’s relationship with the former Liverpool star.

“He’s [Southgate] is a big fan of Raheem, no matter his problems with his club,” he told ITV.

“He’s got huge confidence in Raheem, he’s never going to let him down, he was always going to start tonight...

“There’s obviously some bust-up with Pep, there's something going on there, they’ve brought Grealish in [for £100m in the summer].

“You say 20 months left on his contract but 20 months is a long way away -- he just needs to focus on his game.”

Ian Wright echoed Keane’s sentiments over Sterling’s relationship with Guardiola, but he added that the England star has the “right” to know more about his club future.

“There’s no secret that there’s something going on with him and his manager,” the Arsenal hero said.

“He didn’t play too often at the end of last season and he played well at the Euros. It’s his right to find out his future at that club, tonight is his opportunity to stake a claim.”
