NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police are searching for a fake cop who they say pulled over a woman in Queens and then demanded cash from her.

The NYPD released surveillance images Thursday as they search for a suspect and his vehicle.

Police said a 37-year-old woman was stopped at a red light near 59th Avenue and Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst on the morning of Sept. 29 when a dark-colored Hyundai Sonata pulled alongside her vehicle.

A man inside the Hyundai flashed a police shield and ordered the woman to drive into a parking lot, according to police.

The woman pulled over, and once inside the parking lot, the man identified himself as a police officer, the NYPD said.

The man told the woman to give him money or he would give her a ticket, police said.

The woman handed the man $360 in cash, and he then fled the scene, according to police.

The NYPD believes the suspect is between 45 and 55 years old.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
