The Sabres have everything to prove if they want to avoid an NHL record 11th season where they miss the playoffs. The team has begun to see growth under Don Granato, and a young, talented core has fans hopeful that the team can avoid a similar last place (15-34-7) finish this year.

The Canadiens opened their season Wednesday against the Maple Leafs. Both Sabres and Canadiens won two and lost four games in the NHL preseason.
