In September, Everton faced a major injury crisis, especially in the attacking department, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison both out with injuries. Despite adding Salomon Rondon as a backup striker, there is a possibility to add another versatile attacker. Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram has attracted Everton’s attention.

Rafa Benitez wanted pacey and direct wingers in the squad and he was successful in bringing Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend to Everton. The Toffees pushed to sign Luis Diaz from FC Porto but the deal fell through. Now, the Colombian is being tracked by heavyweights like Barcelona and the Toffees may face stiff competition to lure the 24 year old.

Benitez has indicated that the club will look to make improvements in the squad in the upcoming winter transfer window. The departure of James Rodriguez allowed Everton to free a big chunk of wages from the wage budget, giving them some room for movement in the transfer window without violating the Financial Fair Play regulations.

There are more pressing issues like signing a right back who can act as a long term successor to Seamus Coleman meanwhile also adding a backup left back as Lucas Digne remains the only traditional left back in the squad. However, that hasn’t stopped the Toffees from keeping an eye on exciting forwards who can add spice to the attack.

Everton think of Frenchman Marcus Thuram

According to Calciomercato, Everton are thinking of Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Thuram. Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on the Frenchman. The 24 year old is valued at £25.2 million by Transfermarkt with the player’s contract expiring in 2023 at the Borussia Park.

The Nerazzurri wanted to sign the 24 year old in the summer but in the end, they went with Joaquin Correa. It appears that Inter haven’t given up on his chase and are keeping an eye on Thuram. Everton, on the other hand, can make the most of it if they manage to sign Thuram.

The Frenchman has largely played on the left flank and can even play as a striker. He has partnered up with Alassane Plea upfront when Monchengladbach lineup in a 4-4-2 formation. Thuram has been excellent for Die Fohlen, scoring 11 goals and assisting another 12 in 40 appearances last season.

The versatile forward has been restricted to just two appearances this season and has been out of action since the end of August due to a ruptured intraarticular ligament initiation in knee. Thuram is an exciting attacker and has garnered praises for his bursts of pace and movement which has proven to be too quick for the opponents.

The 24 year old can be a huge coup for the Toffees but whether his £25 million valuation can be met still remains to be seen. Furthermore, Everton also faces competition from Dortmund and Inter.
