Florida Grand Opera Announces FGO Studio Artists

The Florida Grand Opera has announced the 2021-22 FGO Studio Artists.

The company noted that this year’s artists will be tenor Charles Calotta, bass-bartione Erik Danielson, mezzo-soprano Stephanie Doche, baritone Darren Drone, sopranos Katherine Holobinko and Amanda Olea, and baritone Michael Pandolfo.

The resident artists will participate in FGO’s 2021-22 season production as well as workshops and masterclasses.

Calotta is a graduate of the Maryland Opera Studio and was a resident artist at Opera North. He has also performed with the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra.

Doche was previously a Opera Memphis Handorf Company Artist and has performed with Opera NEO, Opèra Louisiane, and the Pacific Opera Project in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Drone recently completed a residency with Michigan Opera Theatre where he covered Leporello in Don Giovanni, the title role in “Sweeney Todd,” Tonio in “Pagliacci” and performed the title role in both “Gianni Schicchi” and “Buoso’s Ghost.”

Holobinko is a recent Central City Opera studio artist and MM graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She is the 2021 winner of the CO/WY district of the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions and an incentive award winner from the SAS Performing Arts Competition.

Olea has performed with CCM Opera and participated in the OperaFusion: NewWorks workshop. She has participated in multiple competitions including the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego, the La Jolla Young Artist Competition, and the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition.

Pandolfo has performed at the Florida Grand Opera, The Glimmerglass Festival, and Wolf Trap Opera.
