Late errors doomed No. 7 Kearney Catholic as third-ranked Guardian Angels Central Catholic was able to knock off the Stars, 4-2, in the winner's bracket of the Nebraska Class C state softball tournament.
Holding a slim 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the sixth, Kearney Catholic committed four straight errors, allowing GACC to score three runs and go on top, 4-2.
With only three outs left to their disposal, KCHS did not have enough time to recover and would go down in order to close out their final at bat.
Kearney Catholic was able to jump on GACC in the bottom of the fourth. Olivia Nore and Bralen Biddlecome hit consecutive doubles to get the Stars on top, 1-0, before Lauren Marker came on two at-bats later and singled to right, doubling up the KC advantage.
Down to one out out remaining in the bottom of the fourth, Livia Hunke's single to center scored Shelby Perchal, who had stolen second on the pitch prior, allowing Hunke to drive her around.
The Stars drop to the elimination bracket where they face either No. 8 Cozad or No. 4 Yutan-Mead at 2 p.m. Thursday.
