‘The Masked Singer’ Season 6 Reveals Another Competitor: And Cupcake Is…

Who was beneath the frosting?

Wednesday night brought another unmasking on “The Masked Singer,” with Group B taking the stage along with a new wildcard. Banana Split (a two-person costume), Cupcake, Queen of Hearts, Mallard and Caterpillar — the wildcard contestant — all sang their hearts out, but unfortunately, one had to go.

As always, the performances were impressive and left the judges almost totally stumped. Robin Thicke even admitted he was “completely lost” after Queen of Hearts’ “mesmerizing” act. (She sang Edith Piaf’s “La Vie En Rose,” and yes, she did it entirely in French.)

It was “Date Night” on “The Masked Singer” this week, which meant that after each performance, the judges asked a round of rapid-fire questions to the contestants. Once the timer ran out, the contestants chose which panelist they most “connected” with — which, in Cupcake’s case, was actually host Nick Cannon.

It was a particularly funny moment, considering Nicole Scherzinger’s speed-dating question was what kind of dating advice Cupcake would give her younger self.

“Date, don’t marry!” she replied confidently.

In the end, it ended up being Cupcake who got the fewest votes from the audience and judges, despite an abundance of “Cupcake Drip” in her performance of Bruno Mars’ “Finesse.” When the mask came off, it was revealed that music icon Ruth Pointer, of The Pointer Sisters, was beneath the frosting.

The reveal ended up being a bit ironic, as Cannon noted that everyone was “so excited” to see who she was. (One of The Pointer Sisters’ biggest hits, of course, was “I’m So Excited.”)

Scherzinger was the only judge who managed to correctly guess Pointer’s identity, with Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy tossing out Tina Turner and Grace Jones as guesses. Thicke, meanwhile, guessed a different Jones, suspecting that perhaps Cupcake was comedian Leslie Jones.

With her correct guess, Scherzinger joins Jeong in the lead, each with one correct guess so far this season.

With that, Pointer’s Cupcake joins the already unmasked “The Masked Singer” Season 6 contestants: Octopus (Dwight Howard), Mother Nature (Vivica A. Fox), Pufferfish (Toni Braxton), Dalmatian (Tyga) and Baby (Larry the Cable Guy).

Still in the running for a “Masked Singer” win are Group A’s Skunk, Bull, Hamster and Pepper, along with Group B’s remaining lineup of Queen of Hearts, Banana Split, Mallard and now Caterpillar. Fans will just have to keep waiting for the arrival of the final two wildcard contestants, Beach Ball and Jester.

“The Masked Singer” airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Fox.
