San Diego State released much-anticipated season ticket pricing on Wednesday for seating at the new Aztec Stadium.

There had been some anxiety among longtime season ticket holders, who were concerned they would be priced out of the new stadium.

SDSU officials had assured, however, that there would be price points for all fans.

Prices start at $250 (plus a $100 “Stadium excellence gift”) for the seven-game 2022 home season at the 35,000-capacity stadium.

“This stadium experience is going to be truly dynamic,” said John David Wicker, SDSU’s director of athletics. “You’re going to have so many options to build your experience within the building. ...

“There’s not going to be a bad seat in the house. It’s intimate enough. The upper level on the west (home) side, and even the east side, are no higher than where you would typically see premium at most stadiums.”

The new stadium is scheduled to open Sept. 3, 2022, with the Aztecs hosting Arizona. The stadium is the first phase on the 166-acre SDSU Mission Valley property, which also will include a river park, research and innovation facilities, a hotel, housing and retail.

Two tiers of seating, each with three price points, was announced.

Priority seating ranges from $750 to $1,500 and Reserved seating from $250 to $600.

The 35,000-capacity stadium will include 33,000 seats and 2,000 standing-room only spaces. Seats at each price point will include a “stadium excellence gift,” an amount determined on a sliding scale. The one-time charge applies toward stadium construction costs.

Here are costs for various levels of season tickets (Premium seating was previously offered):

These prices are for some 24,000 of the stadium’s 33,000 seats (there will be standing-room-only space for 2,000 more).

Season ticket prices in 2019, the last year games were played at SDCCU Stadium, ranged from $201 to $561.

SDSU officials said more than 60 percent of season ticket packages to the new stadium are priced within $39 of the old stadium.

However, this does not account for the cost of a one-time “Stadium excellence gift,” a charge that will go directly toward costs of the $310 million stadium.

That charge will range from $100 to $1,500, depending on the location of the seats selected. It can be paid over a three-year period.

Also, the price for the best seats has risen substantially. A seat near midfield was $561 at the old stadium. The least expensive seats inside the 40-yard lines at the new stadium are $1,000, plus a $1,000 excellence gift.

Proximity to the field will be much closer throughout the new stadium.

Aztec Club members, who number nearly 5,000, will be given the first opportunity to purchase season tickets. Members of the general public will be able to purchase seats beginning in January.

Fans interested in tickets are encouraged to visit the Aztec Stadium Experience Center, which is located in an office building off Friars Road about a mile west of SDSU Mission Valley.

The Experience Center provides prospective season tickets holders with an in-depth look at the seating and amenities available at the new stadium.

Included is a 3D depiction of the vantage points from any seat in the stadium.

SDSU sold approximately 7,600 season tickets for the 2019 season. School officials are hoping to double that number for the first season in the new stadium.

There will be 5,000 seats in the stadium’s north end set aside for students, who get free admission to games. An estimated $371 in annual student fees goes toward SDSU Athletics through the Instructionally Related Activities fee.

SDSU had spent the past year marketing premium seating, which includes about 9 percent of stadium seating (roughly 3,000 seats).

Prices for the Premium seating ranged from $2,000 to $3,500, plus a Stadium excellence gift of $2,500 to $5,000.

That’s an average of $285 to $500 a game (plus gift amount), which is what created anxiety among fans over the past several months.

School officials said the four founders boxes and 16 luxury suites all have been sold as well as 90 percent of the 64 loge suites.

“We took all of our premium down low so those seats at the top of the building are still really good,” Wicker said. “I’m excited for people to get to see the Experience Center and really, truly understand how good the seats are.”

The 2022 home schedule will include seven games. In addition to Arizona, SDSU also has nonconference games against Idaho State and Toledo. The Aztecs will host Mountain West opponents Air Force, Hawaii, San Jose State and UNLV.
