Police in Heath arrested a man Saturday after kids told a police officer that a man had touched them inappropriately at a trampoline park. Anthony Hopper, 36, of Newark, is charged with one count of gross sexual imposition. His case is also being considered by the Grand Jury.
David Haren, Chief of Heath Police, said at least two kids told a special-duty officer at Altitude trampoline park that Hopper touched them.
“He made inappropriate contact walking by or got up close to them and walked away and tried to say he didn't do it,” Haren said.
Court records show Hopper is on post-release control after a 2018 conviction on sexual assault charges. He also faced similar charges in 2010 and 2015.
Upon his arrest, Hopper told police he was struggling.
“He mentioned having problems with his demons and having challenges dealing with his impulses,” Haren said.
With convictions as a sexual offender, it’s not clear if the trampoline park is somewhere Hopper is forbidden from by law.
“We don't know if that's defined in the statute or in terms of his post-release control,” Haren said.
