‘No signs of account compromise’: Twitter denies Maxine Waters was hacked

.

Twitter has found nothing wrong with Rep. Maxine Waters’s account.

Waters said via her Twitter account Tuesday she had been hacked and that her Twitter account had been erased. The California Democrat also claimed to know who was responsible and that she would “take care of this.”

Contrary to Waters’s tweet, the social media company found “no signs of account compromise,” according to Reuters.

“As is standard, we have open lines of communication with her office and have worked with them to ensure the account is secure,” a Twitter spokesperson told the outlet. “At this time, we’ve identified no signs of account compromise.”

Many users pointed out that Waters was using her verified Twitter account to make the announcement — something that would be impossible if her account had been hacked and erased. Additionally, no noticeable amount of posts had disappeared from her account.
