Jason Segel to lead Apple TV comedy from 'Ted Lasso' showrunner and star

He's here! He's there! He's every-f—king-where! Roy Kent!

Well, technically, it's Brett Goldstein, who portrays Ted Lasso's beloved and grunt-y Roy Kent, who is expanding his presence.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Segel is set to star in forthcoming Apple TV Plus comedy Shrinking, as the streamer has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order. Segel will co-executive produce and co-write the series with Goldstein and Ted Lasso showrunner Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town).

Shrinking revolves around a grieving therapist (Segel) who begins to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks," relays THR. "Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes to people’s lives—including his own."

Before becoming Roy on-screen, Goldstein was initially pulled into the record-breaking Lasso as a writer. He earned a Primetime Emmy at last month's ceremony for the role, which he auditioned for over email.

Segel will also star in Apple Original film The Sky Is Everywhere, based on Jandy Nelson's novel of the same name, while Lawrence is simultaneously serving as executive producer and writer on another forthcoming Apple TV Plus series Bad Monkey. Vince Vaughn was revealed in August as the leading man in that one.

All the while, the Ted Lasso second season finale dropped last Friday, and a third season is already in motion. The universal hit, of course, stars Jason Sudeikis as the titular English football manager and boasts a stellar supporting cast that includes Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Toheeb Jimoh, Nick Mohammed and more.
