Six-time Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves' latest album "Star-Crossed" is being excluded from competing in the country category at the 2022 awards show, according to Variety.

The report says Musgraves' label—UMG Recordings Inc. in Nashville—is so upset with the exclusion, the president wrote a letter to the Recording Academy asking for reconsideration.

"Star-Crossed" was released this year by both UMG Recordings and Interscope Records.

Interscope has signed pop artists like Benny Blanco, Billie Eilish, and Carley Rae Jepsen.

Texas-born Musgraves won her first Grammy for Best Country Album for "Same Trailer Different Park." She later went on to win Best Country Album for "Golden Hour."

In an interview with Elle Magazine earlier this year, the singer said though she's rooted herself in country music, she feels she isn't "owned" by the genre.

"I feel like I don’t belong to country in any way on one hand, but on the other hand, I’m deeply rooted in that genre. So I’m not owned by it."

FOX 17 News has reached out to UGM Recordings and the Recording Academy for comment. We have not heard back.

Nominations for 64th Grammy Awards will be announced Nov. 23.
