On Tuesday, Oct. 12 the National Hockey League began the 2021-22 season with eight total University of Minnesota Duluth alumni notching opening-night roster spots.
Former Bulldogs Mikey Anderson (LAK), Justin Faulk (STL), Alex Iafallo (LAK), Karson Kuhlman (BOS), Neal Pionk (WPG), Dylan Samberg (WPG) IR/Non-Roster, Carson Soucy (SEA), and Alex Stalock (EDM) IR/Non-Roster all made their team's respective rosters. Anderson, Samberg, Kuhlman, and Faulk were all part of National Championship winning teams while at UMD. Additionally, Soucy, who was picked by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, has made the team's first roster in franchise history.
In total, 56 alumni from NCHC teams made NHL rosters to start the 2021-22 season. UMD's eight active NHL alumni places them third out of all NCHC schools.
