Gabby Petito’s family traveled to Wyoming Wednesday to reclaim the slain Long Island native’s remains, according to a report.
The 22-year-old’s body has been in Wyoming since she was found at the Bridger-Teton National Forest on Sept. 19 after her ill-fated cross-country trip with boyfriend Brian Laundrie.
Petito’s remains were released this week following the completion of an autopsy, Fox News reported.
Petito was manually strangled and her death has been ruled a homicide.
Laundrie, 23, who returned home without Petito on Sept. 1, remains the sole person of interest in her disappearance and death and has been the subject of an FBI manhunt for nearly a month.
Laundrie has only been charged with allegedly illegally using Petito’s bank card.
Petito’s parents and stepparents held a memorial service without her remains on Sept. 26, with hundreds paying their respects at Moloney’s Funeral Home in Holbrook.
Teton County Coroner Brent Blue said Tuesday that Petito’s body had been turned over to a local funeral home, which made arrangements with the family.
