Halloween Kills | Jamie Lee Curtis And Andi Matichak On Why Laurie And Allyson Are So Similar [Roundtable Interview]

This weekend will be the highly anticipated release of Universal Pictures’ Halloween Kills. Kicking off right where we left off after the horrific events of 2018’s Halloween. Laurie’s house is ablaze but the evil within it has survived and has seemingly become more ruthless than ever. Now the question becomes how will anyone bring down Michael Myers, aka the Boogyman? This is a question that is going to rattle the whole town of Haddonfield.

Not bad for a horror character that was created using a William Shatner mask right? It is impressive to think that the Halloween franchise has now been around for 44 years! I think what I enjoy the most is the simplicity of the character. Granted some of the films that have featured the character in the past have not been very good to say the least, but have done well enough to keep the franchise chugging along.

Halloween Kills and its 2018 predecessor have taken us back to the roots of the Michael Myers lore. Specifically with the inclusion of Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie. Now in her older days, she not only had a daughter but a granddaughter. It has been interesting to see how Laurie’s past has affected all three characters now. It has been a great addition to the Haddonfield mythology. So far from what I have seen, I am bold enough to say that this may be the best version of Halloween following John Carpenter’s original film.

LRM Online had the privilege of participating in a series of round table discussions with some of the cast and creators of Halloween Kills. We had the great opportunity to talk with Jamie Lee Curtis and Andi Matichak. Curtis of course needs no introduction as Laurie. We were introduced to Matichak in 2018 where she played Laurie’s granddaughter Allyson. With her grandmother in the hospital will she take a bigger role in Halloween Kills? You’ll have to wait until this weekend to find out!

During the conversation, Curtis shared with us her passion for the franchise and Laurie’s character. Matichak talked to us about the idea of taking on the role that her grandmother had in the film. We also get a little tease of what could be coming to us in the third and final installment of this trilogy. You can check it out below!

Here is the synopsis for Halloween Kills

Minutes after Laurie Strode (Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor.

But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster.

The Strode women join a group of other survivors of Michael’s first rampage who decide to take matters into their own hands, forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all.

Evil dies tonight.

Halloween Kills is in theaters this Friday, October 15th. Also available to stream exclusively on Peacock.
