The final Cal Fire resources on the Dixie Fire are headed home. Cal Fire crews had been on the fire for 91 days.
The Dixie Fire was sparked on July 13 in the Feather River Canyon and burned into parts of Butte, Lassen, Plumas, Tehama and Shasta Counties. The fire has remained at 963,309 acres for the last three weeks and other agencies will remain on the fire for mop up and fire suppression efforts.
1,329 structures were destroyed and 95 were damaged. The Dixie Fire is the second-largest fire in California history and burned an area roughly the same size as the state of Rhode Island, according to fire officials.
In 2021 four new fires were added to the state's list of the 20 largest, three of which were in the Northstate. Fire officials continue to warn Californians that fire season is not over and high winds and dry weather into the fall months can lead to wildfires.
