‘The Beatles: Get Back’ Shines a New Light on Band’s Infamous Breakup
The docuseries was made using 55 hours of restored footage.
Disney+ has given fans a first look at its upcoming docuseries The Beatles: Get Back.
Directed and produced by Peter Jackson, the filmmaker behind the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, the three-part series follows the making of the band’s 1970 album Let It Be, a record that had the working title of Get Back.
The series is based on over 55 hours of restored footage and 140 hours of audio, much of which has never been seen before. It also features live footage from the band’s final public performance, a surprise 42-minute rooftop concert for the album at London’s Savile Row.
In making the docuseries, Jackson explained wanting to offer an alternative perspective to the prevailing narrative that The Beatles members were hardly speaking to one another during the creation of the album, which was released after they had broken up.
“I was relieved to discover the reality is very different to the myth,” Jackson said about the project in 2019.
“After reviewing all the footage and audio that Michael Lindsay-Hogg shot 18 months before they broke up, it’s simply an amazing historical treasure-trove,” he continued. Sure, there’s moments of drama — but none of the discord this project has long been associated with.”
The Beatles: Get Back will premiere on Disney+ consecutively on November 25, 26 and 27.
