Josh Alexander Comments On The Forbidden Door, Possible Match With Bryan Danielson

Impact Wrestling Superstar Josh Alexander was a recent guest on Talksport as he discussed The Forbidden Door and his desire to have a match with Bryan Danielson someday. You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On if facing Christian Cage for Impact title means more than facing Kenny Omega: “Just with the history for IMPACT Wrestling and Christian Cage. I’m going to draw a lot of similarities between the two of us, especially heading into this match, so yeah, it does make it more special when you look into the details of his first world title victory and me challenging for my first world title. It came as a surprise that Christian won the belt. You never know what’s going to happen, but the second he won, just as a fan I was surprised, but then I started thinking about Christian Cage coming to the IMPACT Zone. Now we’ve evolved to the point where I’m the guy challenging Christian so it all just keeps getting more and more exciting. As a kid I was like hey, he’s from Orangeville, that’s 10 minutes up the road from where I live. I was like if he can go from Orangeville to there, maybe I could? And that was the first time it clicked in my mind that someone from small town Canada could be a wrestler and not just someone born in the [Hart] Dungeon.”

On wanting to be part of AEW’s Owen Hart Cup: “I’m a big fan of 90s wrestling. That’s probably my era, Bret Hart is my number one. That’s where I discovered Eddie Guerrero and so on and I think to a certain extent, Owen Hart has been kind of forgotten in the history of wrestling. Certainly not celebrated enough as he should be. So I think this tournament will showcase Owen Hart, alert these new fans over the past 10-15 years that might not know Owen Hart or all the amazing things he has done. This will help people go back and watch all the amazing things he did because he’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time. I don’t know if it’s by design or anything, but I am kind of the wrestler that has represented Canada for the past 10 years more than anybody. A fellow wrestler pointed it out to me ‘not since Bret Hart have I seen a wrestler champion Canada like you!’ And I was like ‘There was Team Canada with Bobby Roode and that’ and he was like ‘Yeah, but those guys were part of the team, it’s part of your whole thing!’ I guess! I think growing up Canadian and being such a fan of The Hart Foundation and then Team Canada, it just kind of molded me.”

On the Forbidden Door: “Bryan Danielson, his matches with Nigel McGuinnes and [Takeshi] Morishima, they moulded me as a professional wrestler. They changed my perspective on wrestling. Bryan Danielson would be the number one dream match for me now if it’s a possibility. I’d love to show a guy from IMPACT Wrestling could do toe-to-tie with them, represent myself and the company at the same time, it would be amazing.”
