Hunterdon Medical Center Blood Bank in ‘critical need’ of O positive and O negative blood donors

There is a national shortage of blood and the Blood Bank at Hunterdon Medical Center is in critical need of O positive and O negative blood.

“Giving blood is the most generous act of kindness that one human being can do for another. When you give blood, you save lives. Blood is used for accident victims, newborn babies and their mothers who need a transfusion, people undergoing surgery, patients receiving treatment for cancer and other diseases,” said Cathy Conroy, blood donor recruiter at Hunterdon Medical Center.

She continued, “The blood donated at Hunterdon Medical Center stays here and is used on our patients. So when you donate, no matter what your type, you will be helping your friends and neighbors.”

To be eligible to donate blood a person must be at least 17 years of age, be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds, (130 pounds for 17 year olds). In addition, individuals who have had the COVID-19 vaccine are eligible to donate. The Blood Bank will screen for COVID-19 antibodies and cholesterol.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood or for more information, contact Conroy via at 908-788–6405 or email at cconroy@hhsnj.org. For more information on donating blood, visit https://www.hunterdonhealthcare.org/service/lab-imaging/blood-donation/.
