State Grant To Help Build New Plant In Clinton

The state of Iowa wants to help build a new plant in Clinton to process agricultural products into renewable fuel. Tuesday, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved a 550,000 dollar grant to build a rail connection for the new plant.

Tammy Nicholson, director of the DOT's Modal Transportation Bureau, says a company called Wabash Cannonball LLC wants to build a rail connection from the Union Pacific mainline to the new plant in Clinton.

Called the Clinton Connecting Track, it will extend for 5.3 miles to a site in the Lincolnway Rail and Air Park.

The project is expected to create 50 new jobs.

So far, nothing else is known about Wabash Cannonball, except for contact information for a person in Houston, Texas. Development officials in Clinton are not allowed yet to release the name of the company intending to build the new plant.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
