Coldplay welcomed Ed Sheeran to the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire stage in West London, England on Tuesday night for a take on songs from both of their catalogs.

Sheeran is no stranger to onstage collaborations, having sat in with the likes of John Mayer, Rolling Stones, Jon Batiste, and many more over the years. This one was unique, however, in that it was in front of a hometown crowd for Coldplay, and a quasi-hometown crowd for Sheeran, who is from Halifax, just a couple hours away.

Part-way through “Fix You”, from Coldplay’s 2005 X&Y album, Sheeran made his grand entrance, strutting onstage to the microphone already waiting for him. Strumming his acoustic guitar, Sheeran took over the second half of the first verse before Coldplay’s Chris Martin joined him on the chorus. With the help of the crowd, the group brought the song to an end before starting into one of Sheeran’s newest singles, “Shivers”.

Martin picked up an acoustic guitar of his own for this performance of “Shivers”, joining Sheeran on vocals throughout as the band played behind them. The three-song collaboration then came to an end with one of Sheeran’s most popular songs, “Shape of You”, which again saw vocal harmonies from Sheeran, Martin, and the overjoyed Shepherd’s Bush Empire crowd.
