Before we get into what I am seeing that makes me believe that the Chicago Bears will be moving on from Matt Nagy at the end of the year despite a miracle, let me preface this by saying this is mostly pure speculation. I do not have an inside source that is feeding me this information. I have heard some insider rumors, but I’m not here to try and take credit for breaking any stories — stories that I think most Chicago Bears fans can infer on their own without being told by an insider.

We have seen Matt Nagy go from being beloved by most and atop the next great coaches list in the NFL as the 2018 NFL Coach of the Year to now having most fans hypothetically outside Halas Hall with pitchforks screaming for him to be fired.

What happened and why did it happen so quickly? For starters, Matt Nagy received too much credit for a historic defense that Vic Fangio coached in 2018. The Chicago Bears’ defense in 2018 should have been good enough to win the Super Bowl, but a below-average offense limited the team’s ability to beat better teams. With a 12-4 record in the regular season, all it took was the inability to score points on offense to truly limit this team’s success.

Matt Nagy will need a miracle if he’s going to remain with the Chicago Bears

When your offense is only putting up 15 points in a playoff game, it is saying something about your team. Many fans and analysts wanted to blame the offensive failures on quarterback Mitch Trubisky. However, now that we have seen Nagy’s offense look identical with Nick Foles, Andy Dalton and even Justin Fields, it’s safe to say things were not working outside of the quarterbacks’ control.

Here’s the thing, we saw what Matt Nagy’s offense could do last year when the team fought back from a six-game losing streak, but Bill Lazor was calling the plays. We saw what Matt Nagy’s offense could do again last week with Lazor holding the “be you” play sheet. Alright, I doubt he was using the “be you” play sheet. In fact, that thing needs to be thrown out. We even saw just enough of it yesterday with a 20-point finish and win over the Raiders. We need to understand that these are still Matt Nagy’s plays. Lazor is just doing a better job calling them together.

Alright, I’m getting ahead of myself here. Let’s take a look at what signs I am seeing that make me believe Matt Nagy will be gone at the end of the season unless this team finds a miracle. By a miracle, I mean the offense must look good and the team must not only make the playoffs but win a playoff game.
