Rumour Mongering: Real Madrid Want Trent Alexander-Arnold

What do you think they’re smoking over there at the Santiago Bernabéu?

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has a strong case for being the world’s best right back. Real Madrid like to buy the world’s best players. Put it together and you might come up with an idea about Real Madrid wanting to buy Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Or at least Fichajes appears to have done so, with the Spanish outlet claiming this week that Madrid manager Carlos Ancelotti has made no secret of the fact that Alexander-Arnold is his first choice target for strengthening his defence next summer.

They do at least have enough sensibility to note that actually signing the 23-year-old Liverpool academy product who’s been key to their domestic and European success and has just signed a new long-term deal would be “not exactly simple.”

They further suggest that Liverpool would want €75M, or about £64M, for the player. Though that seems rather less grounded in reality than their acknowledgement that getting a deal done for Alexander-Arnold wouldn’t exactly be a simple matter.

Because realistically, given his age and talent and that new deal he signed and the fact he’s an academy product with a starring role in one of Europe’s best sides already, it would probably take a few times that number to even get the Reds thinking.

Still, even if the whole thing is largely laughable, it’s nice to know that some of Europe’s biggest clubs view Trent Alexander-Arnold as he deserves to be: as quite possibly the world’s top right back and a player who’d make any top side better.
