‘The Last of Us’ HBO set photos show off Pedro Pascal as Joel

More set photos have been revealed for the upcoming HBO adaptation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, a video game about survival in a world where humans have mutated into violent, horrific creatures. And we haven’t even mentioned the fungus zombies yet.

The series is filming right now, and the latest set photos give us a glimpse of a ruined Boston, reclaimed by nature, as well as a good look at The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller. The photographs perfectly capture the look of the game.

We can’t see if he has Joel’s scraggy beard under that face mask, but Pascal looks unmistakably like his video game counterpart.

The series is being filmed in Edmonton, but a $10 million per episode budget is working its magic to make it look like post-apocalyptic Boston.

Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann, who is also co-writing the show and directing some episodes, gave us our first glimpse of Joel and Ellie together a few weeks ago, albeit from behind. It’s a shot that really captures the characters.

Bella Ramsey, who starred alongside Pascal in Game of Thrones, is playing the part of Ellie, a young girl who could be the key to ending the outbreak.

Craig Mazin, the creator of HBO’s brilliant Chernobyl, is writing and executive producing alongside Druckmann. Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov is directing the pilot.
