October Update Reaches The Galaxy Note 20 Series In More Regions

The October 2021 Android security patch is now rolling out to the international variants of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 series. Both the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra first picked up the latest SMR (security maintenance release) in South Korea a couple of weeks ago. Users in Southeastern Europe are now receiving the update as well, SamMobile reports. It should now be just a matter of time before the rollout reaches users in the US.

According to the report, the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are receiving this month’s security update with the firmware version N98xFXXS3DUIF in European countries. The new software is unlikely to bring any notable new features apart from a bunch of vulnerability fixes from Google and Samsung.

Samsung last week confirmed that the October SMR contains fixes more than 60 vulnerabilities. The majority of those privacy and security issues were found in Google’s Android OS, with at least six of them being labeled critical by the company. The remaining issues were Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items that only affect the Korean firm’s Android-powered devices. At least three of the SVEs patched were of critical severity, the company says.

Samsung is picking up the pace with its October security update rollout. First rolled out to the Galaxy S21 series in the last week of September, the latest SMR has since reached several other Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The Galaxy Z Fold 3, Flip 3, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A52, Galaxy Note 10, and Galaxy Tab Active 3 are to name a few.

Earlier today, Samsung released the update to the original Galaxy Z Flip. Now the international variants of the Galaxy Note 20 series are joining the party as well. Of course, not all of these devices are receiving this month’s security update globally. However, this does confirm that the rollout has begun. It’s now only a matter of time before it reaches every user across the globe.

If you own any of the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy smartphones, you can be on the lookout for a new update in the coming days if you haven’t already received it. You should get a notification about the update. You can also manually check for updates from your phone. Simply navigate to Settings >> Software update and click on Download and install. If an OTA (over the air) update is available, you’ll be prompted to download it.
