Vanessa Hudgens is back for a third The Princess Switch film, and as lovers of trash movies (we mean that in the best possible way) we are very excited. Here's what we know about the next Netflix Christmas movie, from plot to cast to release date.
When was The Princess Switch 3 confirmed?
Following the success of 2018's The Princess Switch and 2020's The Princess Switch: Switched Again, Netflix confirmed The Princess Switch 3, otherwise known as The Princess Switch: Romancing the Star. The third movie was announced in November 2020, and Netflix promised production would shoot in Scotland and be released at the end of 2021.
Who will star in The Princess Switch 3?
Vanessa Hudgens will be back as Queen Margaret, Vanessa Hudgens will be back as Stacy and Vanessa Hudgens will also be back as Fiona, as per the second film. New to the series is Remy Hii as Peter Maxwell, while we can also assume Nick Sagar return as Kevin, Sam Palladio as Prince Edward, and Alexa Adeosun as Olivia.
We can also assume Mark Fleischmann and Suanne Braun will return for the third movie as Frank De Luca and Mrs Donatelli respectively.
What will happen in The Princess Switch 3?
The official synopsis from Netflix reads: "When a priceless relic is stolen, Margaret and Stacy enlist the help of Fiona to retrieve it... and rekindle the sparks of a Christmas romance."
The end of the second film, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, saw Kevin and Margaret happily engaged and Margaret is queen, and Fiona has been arrested for her fraud attempts. So, er, not sure quite how Margaret enlists her help for the third film, but no doubt we'll find out.
What have the cast said about The Princess Switch 3?
Vanessa revealed filming had finished with an Instagram post in March 2021. "And that’s a wrap on Princess Switch 3," she wrote to followers. "What a whirlwind. Man everyone worked their asses off. AND stayed safe. BIG thanks to @netflix for taking the extra precautions to keep us on track and bring that new new to your screens."
She also confirmed she wouldn't be playing a fourth character, telling PopSugar, "There will be still three of me, which is more than enough in my opinion."
When will The Princess Switch 3 be released?
The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star is out on Netflix on November 18.
