Christian Assembly cancels Christmas dinner/outreach event due to COVID concerns

From Staff Reports

BEAVER FALLS — Due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, and out of an abundance of caution for guests and volunteers, Christian Assembly has canceled its annual free Christmas Day dinner/outreach.

The event, which is under the auspices of CARE Outreach Ministries, had been an annual tradition for 26 years, but was canceled in 2020 due to COVID.

In a letter addressed to the community, Christian Assembly said it is a very difficult thing to accept, and had hoped things would change from the end of 2020, but to no avail.

“It is not only a personal disappointment but a disappointment for the literal thousands of individuals and families who have come to rely and enjoy this outreach as a mainstay during the holiday season,” the letter said.

Additionally, the letter said: “For this reason, we are very heavy-hearted; however, we continue to plan for smaller-scale outreach activities for local families in need as we did last year.”

Assembly leaders will continue to monitor the situation and keep the community abreast of any changes or updates.

They also state they hope the community can show other organizations the same generosity, such as the Salvation Army, the YMCA, or the Women’s Center, to name a few.
