Looking at the current Manchester United squad, it can be hard to build a formidable midfield, good enough to protect the back four and form quick attacking transitions. Adding Wilfred Ndidi might help.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has world-class talent in abundance – but he has yet to find a way to use it to United’s benefit and that is his job this season. It helps that United had a solid summer transfer window in 2021 which saw the arrivals of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But after those signings our midfield is no better than it was last season, and that is not good enough to win you the Premier League. A defensive midfielder would go a long way towards improving this side.

A report from Spanish outlet Fichajes claims United are after a positional midfielder in January to solve their problems. The player they’re talking about is Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.

The main reason should be give Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes more attacking freedom in a midfield three, but multiple media reports suggest the Frenchman will move on this summer for free when his contract expires.

United look vulnerable when the manager plays a double pivot in midfield, consisting of Fred and Scott McTominay, and it has had a negative impact on Pogba’s performances.
