Lakers news: Russell Westbrook takes responsibility for turnovers, deems an easy fix

Los Angeles Lakers guard Russell Westbrook has played two games in the preseason, but neither has been pretty.

Westbrook’s debut in the purple and gold was filled with turnovers in the first quarter and just two points.

Then in his second game, he accumulated nine turnovers, which was more than the eight points he scored.

It hasn’t been the start the Lakers would’ve liked from their new third star, but Westbrook took responsibility for his mistakes.

“Oh, it’s fine. The turnover stuff is on me, but good thing they don’t count. Turn it over 15 times, ain’t nothing nobody can do about it,” Westbrook said laughing. “It’s all good. It’s on me, though.”

Westbrook added how his new teammates need to get acclimated to his play style to handle his passes.

“Easy fix, though. Very easy,” Westbrook said. “Just because timing, guys getting used to my speed, my pace, my timing…Nothing with the offense…Those are all personal errors, timing and something we can figure out.”

The Lakers have just two games left in the preseason before the numbers start to count. Anthony Davis revealed he, Westbrook and LeBron James would play together for the first time in the preseason against the Golden State Warriors, so that could help Westbrook’s transition with his teammates.

It still has been just two games, so it’s plausible to expect the former league MVP will turn it around and make these issues a thing of the past. How long that will take, though, is the key question.
