The first NHL game in Seattle Kraken history brought the excitement. It didn’t come with a win for the expansion team, however, as the Vegas Golden Knights hung on for the 4-3 victory on Tuesday night.

The Kraken may have come out with a lot of energy, but it didn’t work out in their favor early on as the Golden Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period.

After falling behind 3-0 early in the second, though, the Kraken got going against their Pacific Division rivals.

Despite debut loss, Kraken look like a team that will win fans over

First, Ryan Donato came through with a hard-fought goal in front of the net for the first score in Kraken history. And just 69 seconds later, it was Jared McCann who brought Seattle within one of Vegas’ lead (see both of those goals in the video below).

The Kraken stayed on the offensive in the third period as Morgan Geekie tied the game at 3-all with the prettiest of the Kraken’s scores on the night.

The Golden Knights answered quickly with a controversial tally as the puck was deflected off the foot of Chandler Stephenson at 8:33 in the third, less than a minute after Geekie’s equalizer.

Vegas was able to withstand a 4-on-3 Kraken power play late and come away with the win at home.

Despite the four goals allowed, Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer had a strong opening night with 26 saves.

The Kraken will continue play at 5 p.m. Thursday night in Nashville against the Predators in the second of a five-game road trip.
