Michel Gallen, Annemarie Ní Churreáin, and Dylan Coburn Gray “Elsewhere” is set to premiere on November 15, 2021.

The opera will be presented by Straymaker and The Abbey Theater in association with Miroirs Étendus and Once Off Productions.

The opera is set in 1919 and tells the story of the Monaghan Asylum’s staff declaring themselves an independent Soviet commune. At the center of this story is Celine, a patient who has been locked away for decades and thinks of herself as a leader.

The opera stars Aaron O’Hare, Amy Ní Fhearraigh, Adrian Dwyer, Aoife Miskelly Daire Halpin, Fearghal Curtis, and Sinéad O’Kelly. Tom Creed directs and Fiona Monbet conducts.

The project is funded by the Arts Council, Creative Monaghan, Institut Francais, supported by Monaghan Arts Office, Center Culturel Irlandais Paris and Íontas Arts Center Castleblayney.
