It has been a decade since the last Scream installment was released, and reports are claiming that the popular horror series will be making its comeback soon -- just in time for the upcoming Halloween.
Since the upcoming movie would not serve as the fifth installment, it is dubbed Scream 2022. So, what can we expect from the imminent film? Keep on reading to know more details.
Is Scream 2022 A Reboot Or A Sequel?
A lot has changed for the Scream franchise. With the original director and creator Wes Craven passing away in 2015, things may not look the same for Scream 2022. There was even a rumor that Scream 4 would be the last in the franchise.
The star power and undeniable chemistry of original cast David Arquette, Courteney Cox, and Neve Campbell are still on. Luckily for fans, the trio is still interested in reprising their roles in Scream 2022, and fans are confident that it would be another blockbuster hit with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet as the directors.
In The Heights actress Melissa Barrera is one of the latest addition to the cast, while Scream 4 star Marlet Shelton is set to return to reprise her role as Deputy Judy Hicks. Scream 2022 will also feature Mason Gooding of Dear White People, Jasmin Savoy Brown from The Leftovers, Jenna Ortega of You, Jack Quaid from The Boys, and Dylan Minnette of 13 Reasons Why.
But to call Scream 2022 a sequel would be a stretch, and to call it a reboot would be too short. Scream 2022 is a mix of both. Yes, it will pick up from where Scream 4 ended, but it does give room to make it a launching pad for a brand new narrative, much like the most recent Jurassic Park installments and Halloween.
Scream2022 Trailer And Release Date
On Tuesday, Paramount Pictures released the official trailer of Scream 2022. The promo showed a young lady being tormented insider her own home by a mysterious killer. The latter part of the teaser featured some of the main characters concluding that the murderer targets the people close to the original killer. Watch the official trailer below:
Scream 2022 is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 14, 2021.
