Are you worried about your child falling behind in school?
A recent national poll indicated that of the top concerns facing parents coming out of the pandemic is that their children might fall behind in school.
To help parents help their kids in school, Chase Walker, of The Daily Dad, joined Fresh Living to share his advice.
Chase has three tips for all children and all schools, that are as easy as A-B-C!
A: Ask about EVERYTHING. Chase believes that one of the best solutions for most parenting problems is effective communication.
He encourages parents to ask their children, the teachers, the school administrators, and their friends, about what is going on in school. Asking about everything includes following up on answers that are given.
If you do not know what is going on in your child’s school and in their classroom how are you going to be able to help your child not fall behind?
B: Be PHYSICALLY present. One of the common misconceptions about school is that you can send your kids to their room or the basement to do their homework and know that it’s going to get done.
Chase encourages parents to be physically present with their kids, whether they're doing homework or working on activities.
While it might not be possible for every parent to be present at everything, all the literature supports the idea that as parents are more physically involved in the child’s education, the child is more responsible and engaged in it.
C: Champion Successes. In Chase's study, he's found that kids did better when parents put homework and art on their fridges or displayed in their house somewhere.
This is because when children know that their efforts are not only meriting good grades but are being championed by their parents their incentive to continue to do well increases exponentially.
