No rest for the weary. The 13 remaining “Dancing with the Stars” celebrities performed routines inspired by Disney heroes on Monday night, but they had to get right back out on the dance floor for “Disney Villains Night” on Tuesday. So the bad guys got the last laugh, but which celebrities were able to keep up with the grueling pace? And who (if anyone) was kicked out of the Magic Kingdom at the end of the night? Melora Hardin topped the judges’ leaderboard for the first time on “Heroes Night.” Her “Jungle Book” quickstep earned straight nines for a total of 36 out of 40. That was followed closely by JoJo Siwa‘s Viennese waltz and Olivia Jade‘s samba, which scored 35 each. Meanwhile, Brian Austin Green had the night’s lowest score (25) for a waltz that the judges thought lacked adequate choreographic content. But no one was eliminated at the end of night one, so the contestants who struggled still had an opportunity to redeem themselves, while the top scorers looked to secure their positions at the top of the leaderboard.
Only four dance styles were represented on “Villains Night.” There were three jazz routines: Jimmie Allen (“Peter Pan”), Hardin (“Tangled”), and Jade (“Coco”) tackled that style. Four other celebs danced the challenging and aggressive paso doble: Green (“Pirates of the Caribbean”), Matt James (“The Jungle Book”), Amanda Kloots (“Cruella”), and Siwa (“Descendants 2”). There were also four Viennese waltzes: Melanie C (“Maleficent”), Suni Lee (“Hocus Pocus”), Kenya Moore (“Snow White”), and Cody Rigsby (“Beauty and the Beast”). The last two contestants, Mike “The Miz” Mizanin (“The Lion King”) and Iman Shumpert (“Aladdin”), danced Argentine tangos.
Scores and viewer votes from nights one and two were combined to determine the results at the end of the night. Who gave your favorite performances? Did the judges and viewers get it right? Follow along below starting at 8:00pm (times listed are Eastern).
Daniel Montgomery, 8:00pm — I wonder if tonight’s dances will suffer at all from the dancers’ fatigue.
DM, 8:02pm — OMG, Alan Bersten has another wig! LOL
DM, 8:03pm — And as it turns out there will be a double elimination tonight instead of just one celebrity going home. Fitting for “Villains Night.”
Cordell Martin, 8:03pm — Tonight should be a true test as to who the real contenders are.
Jimmie Allen and Emma Slater (“Peter Pan” jazz)
DM, 8:04pm — Jimmie is playing “fashion icon” Captain Hook, while Emma plays Tinkerbell. And they’re dancing to “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish. Another one of those routines where I have no idea how these ingredients are supposed to come together.
DM, 8:06pm — That was … something.
CM, 8:06pm — Yes LOL
DM, 8:07pm — Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of that choreography, and I think all of Jimmie’s costuming got in the way of his physical movement.
CM, 8:07pm — Me too. It was a bit all over the place. Hmm, he’ll probably get four 8s.
JUDGES — Len Goodman liked the concept and the lifts, and he thinks Jimmie’s dance skills are coming along nicely. Derek admired the side-by-side elements of the dance. Bruno Tonioli says, “You got me hooked. That was a badass jazz routine.” He thinks it’s Jimmie’s best performance to date. Carrie Ann Inaba thinks Disney suits him, “that was amazing.”
SCORES — Carrie Ann (9), Len (8), Derek (9), Bruno (9) = 35
DM, 8:09pm — Those scores were WEIRD.
CM, 8:10pm — Yes! Tonight is going to be a mess. Jojo, Olivia or Amanda will get a 10 lol
DM, 8:10pm — Seriously, I would’ve given that a 7.
CM, 8:11pm — Me too. This is only going to screw someone like Mel C in terms of being on the bottom.
Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Burke (“Beauty and the Beast” Viennese Waltz)
DM, 8:13pm — I really like the idea of this dance style and character for Cody. His big personality should be able to fit the role. He says that as a Gemini he believes we’re all part hero and part villain, so he’ll be able to channel this personality.
DM, 8:15pm — Felt like Cody’s footwork was a little hectic, but I think it’s because the tempo of the music was so fast for that waltz.
JUDGES — Derek thought he had the “flair” and “gusto,” but he needs to work on the technical stuff like his frame and balance. Bruno was happy to see Cody in a full production, though he needs “polish.” Carrie Ann liked that the moves were all finished, bold, and polished, despite a few stumbles. Len thought it was “well done,” and he especially liked the “fleckle.”
SCORES — Carrie Ann (8), Len (7), Derek (8), Bruno (8) = 31
DM, 8:17pm — Another dance where I would have gone a little lower. I would’ve given that a 7 too.
CM, 8:17pm — I agree.
Melanie C and Gleb Savchenko (“Maleficent” Viennese Waltz)
DM, 8:21pm — Another Viennese waltz, and I feel like Melanie will really sell this character with her intensity and strength. And Viennese waltz as a dance style should be a waltz in the park for her.
CM, 8:22pm — I hope Mel C kills it.
DM, 8:24pm — Yeah, she killed that. Perfectly in character, smooth and elegant movements to that music.
CM, 8:24pm — Loved it. My favorite dance by her.
JUDGES — Bruno thought it was “magnificent” and “haunting” with “plenty of drama.” Carrie Ann thought it was Melanie’s “best dance by far,” “sensual, powerful.” Len liked the “mood” and “atmosphere,” but he wanted to see more Viennese waltz in the choreography. Derek credits her with handling the Maleficent horns; it was “beautiful” and well done.
CM, 8:25pm — Oh Len.
SCORES — Carrie Ann (9), Len (8), Derek (9), Bruno (9) = 35
DM, 8:26pm — Now these 9s I thought were deserved.
JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson (“Descendants 2” Paso Doble)
DM, 8:30pm — They’re dancing with “Ways to Be Wicked,” and JoJo seems pretty excited, though I’m not sure “Descendants 2” is the most memorable Disney property for her. She did get “Cinderella” last night, though, so I can’t complain. She can also relate to a character who used to be a villain but turned good because she’s all about fighting bullying.
DM, 8:32pm — That’s the first paso doble this season so far that had the right amount of attack, that was fierce.
CM, 8:32pm — Yessir.
JUDGES — Carrie Ann didn’t think it was JoJo’s best dance, it was “a little hectic” and went back to old bad habits. Len loved that the dance had “control” and she did a fantastic job handling two dances this week on opposite ends of the dance spectrum. Derek thought it had the “power” and “oomph” that he loves to see in the paso doble. Bruno thought it was a “paso doble like no other.”
CM, 8:34pm — Really Carrie Ann? I agree with Len.
SCORES — Carrie Ann (8), Len (9), Derek (9), Bruno (9) = 35
CM, 8:35pm — She should’ve received all 9s.
DM, 8:35pm — I agree, especially after some of the other 9s we’ve seen tonight
Kenya Moore and Brandon Armstrong (“Snow White” Viennese Waltz)
DM, 8:36pm — They’re doing another classic character to a modern song, “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande for the evil queen in “Snow White.” I think she’ll handle this character and style quite nicely.
DM, 8:38pm — Nice and clean and Kenya sold that character quite well.
CM, 8:39pm — She did! Her best performance
JUDGES — Len liked the bars she did in hold. It was a “lovely dance.” Derek thinks she’s “fierce” and she needs to own that more in the competition. Bruno says, “No mirror can do justice to your regal beauty.” Carrie Ann is impressed with how centered Kenya was even when she came closer to losing balance, but she has to dock a point for a lift.
SCORES — Carrie Ann (7), Len (7), Derek (8), Bruno (8) = 30
DM, 8:40pm — Two 7s after some people they’ve given 9s to? <Side Eye>
CM, 8:40pm — Exactly. I might need to give her a vote or two.
DM, 8:41pm — Yeah, I’m worried that might’ve sealed her fate.
Iman Shumpert and Daniella Karagach (“Aladdin” Argentine Tango)
DM, 8:44pm — I really like the idea of this dance style for Iman since he shouldn’t have trouble with the lifts and supporting Daniella. And playing Jafar will allow him to use his height to dramatic effect.
DM, 8:46pm — I liked how well he maintained his posture in hold, and I LOVE how Daniella used his height to her advantage in the choreography with those lifts.
CM, 8:46pm — I loved it. Iman killed it.
JUDGES — Derek thought the opening and ending lifts were “iconic … That was a moment.” Bruno thought it was “a feat of magical strength.” Carrie Ann is “blown away,” it’s one of “the most magical performances” she’s seen on the show despite one flexed foot. Len thought it was Iman’s best dance.
SCORES — Carrie Ann (9), Len (7), Derek (9), Bruno (8) = 33
DM, 8:48pm — Man, these scores are a hot mess tonight. I think Bruno had the right idea with that 8.
CM, 8:49pm — Yeah they are LOL. I hope Matt and Brian don’t get over-scored.
DM, 8:50pm — Same. Maybe the judges are trying to bump up the scores to tamp theirs down a bit?
Melora Hardin and Artem Chigvintsev (“Tangled” Jazz)
DM, 8:53pm — I love Melora, loved that she had a breakthrough moment on “Disney Heroes Night,” and she’s excited to play the mean mama from “Tangled.” But while people think her “Office” character Jan was a villain, Melora thinks she was just misunderstood, which is what an actor needs to believe to play a great villain. I especially love that Melora gets a visit from former co-star Kate Flannery, who was so good in her season on “DWTS.”
DM, 8:56pm — Great character work, solid choreography, not quite as good as last night, but I think Melora should be safe.
CM, 8:56pm — I hope so.
JUDGES — Bruno thought it was “delicious,” “wicked” musical comedy. Carrie Ann thought it was “so theatrical,” and it was “amazing,” but “a little safe.” Len thought it had “wit” and “charm” and was “truly delightful.” Derek thought it was a “clinic in theatrical storytelling.”
SCORES — Carrie Ann (9), Len (10), Derek (9), Bruno (9) = 37
DM, 8:57pm — I love Melora. That 10 is WILD, though, especially for the first 10 of the season to come from Len of all people. And I kinda agree it was a little safe.
CM, 8:57pm — Me too.
The Miz and Witney Carson (“The Lion King” Argentine Tango)
DM, 8:59pm — The Miz finds out he’ll be playing “the worst of the worst.” He’s been playing a villain in the WWE for 16 years, ever since he’s been with the company. “A lot of people don’t like to be booed, but I do.” I’m ready for him to really sell the hell out of this dance.
DM, 9:01pm — Solid from The Miz, not quite as memorable as Iman’s tango, but solid.
CM, 9:02pm — I preferred Iman’s.
DM, 9:02pm — Same.
JUDGES — Carrie thinks “the men are on fire tonight,” and The Miz was “incredible.” She loved that he channeled his energy into focus and intimacy. Len loved the tango moments, the in-character lifts, and the theatrical performance. Derek thinks his commitment to character deserves a 10, but it needs an extra little punch to put it over the edge. Bruno thought there was “so much content,” but “a couple of stumbles.”
CM, 9:03pm — The Miz is another judges favorite.
SCORES — Carrie Ann (9), Len (8), Derek (9), Bruno (8) = 34
DM, 9:05pm — I would’ve gone 8 on The Miz instead of those 9s. I want whatever the judges smoked before the show that made them so jolly LOL
Brian Austin Green and Sharna Burgess (“Pirates of the Caribbean” Paso Doble)
DM, 9:09pm — I really think Brian is going to struggle with this dance. It’s a tough style, and he has to follow tonight’s paso from JoJo Siwa plus “Pirates” pasos from Riker Lynch and James Van Der Beek in past seasons. Deck is kinda stacked against him here.
DM, 9:11pm — Good idea to have him play Barbossa instead of Jack Sparrow. A perfectly alright paso doble, I’m not mad at it, but it won’t be a big scorer.
CM, 9:11pm — Yeah it wasn’t that great.
JUDGES — Len liked the aggression he showed, but he needs to lift his diaphragm and use his free arm better. Derek loved the dance fight choreography. Bruno thought he was “spunky” and had firepower, but he has to control his free arm and made a couple of mistakes. Carrie Ann thought it was a “valiant effort.”
SCORES — Carrie Ann (7), Len (6), Derek (7), Bruno (7) = 27
DM, 9:13pm — And they finally score a dance appropriately.
CM, 9:13pm — Yes, Matt might join him.
DM, 9:15pm — Combining both nights, the judges put Brian 6 points under the next lowest scorer on the leaderboard so far.
Matt James and Lindsay Arnold (“Jungle Book” Paso Doble)
DM, 9:18pm — Matt is playing the snake Kaa and Lindsay is playing Shere Khan. Another celeb I think might struggle on the paso doble.
CM, 9:20pm — Matt doesn’t have the finesse.
DM, 9:20pm — Decent effort from Matt. He was definitely struggling during the drag across the floor.
CM, 9:21pm — Yeah he did.
JUDGES — Derek could see he was making the effort with his hips, but he needs to take larger steps when doing a drag. Bruno thinks he needs to refine it, but he’s on the right track. Carrie Ann thinks this is the first time he gave all instead of holding back. But he needs to watch the steps he takes since he’s so tall. Len sees some promise, but Matt is capable of “so much more.”
SCORES — Carrie Ann (8), Len (7), Derek (8), Bruno (8) = 31
DM, 9:23pm — Those. 8s. Are. Bonkers.
CM, 9:24pm — Grocery Store Joe all over again. The judges are going to look stupid when better dancers start leaving before him.
DM, 9:24pm — Well, he is better than Grocery Store Joe at least. Low bar to clear, but definitely better LOL.
Olivia Jade and Val Chmerkovskiy (“Coco” jazz)
DM, 9:27pm — Olivia has proved to be such a consistent technical performer, I have no concern for her at all with whatever Val throws at her. It’s a question of the choreography and the character of the dance, which will focus on the homicidal Ernesto De La Cruz from “Coco.”
DM, 9:30pm — That was cute, a lot of fun character work, I would have liked a little bit more dancing.
CM, 9:30pm — Exactly. They will probably give her all 9s …
JUDGES — Bruno thinks she captured the spirit of the movie, and she can act as well as dance. Carrie Ann was impressed with the acting, but “it felt a little safe.” Len “could have danced for joy” with this “joyous” performance. Derek thinks she’s a “natural born performer.”
DM, 9:31pm — I love the class of Val for thanking the Latin American community of welcoming him as a Ukrainian into the Latin dance world
SCORES — Carrie Ann (8), Len (9), Derek (9), Bruno (9) = 35
DM, 9:33pm — I can really see Amanda getting straight 10s after the scores we’ve seen tonight.
CM, 9:34pm — Pretty much. Suni could see a 9 as well.
DM, 9:34pm — Barring a noticeable mistake, 9s for Suni seem likely.
Suni Lee and Sasha Farber (“Hocus Pocus” Viennese Waltz)
DM, 9:36pm — Suni is “so excited” to do a “Hocus Pocus” dance because she and her sister watch that movie every year. She’s shy and her sister is outgoing, and I’m glad she’s so enthusiastic because she’s going to really need to come out of her shell to play the Bette Midler role from that movie.
DM, 9:39pm — Could’ve used a little more character work from Suni, but I think that was one of her best dances so far.
CM, 9:39pm — I agree.
JUDGES — Carrie Ann can feel the energy and articulation in her movements, and “the performance has matched the technique.” Len thinks she looked so good in hold, so he wants to see more of that in future ballroom dances. Derek thinks she has beautiful arms, and he agrees with Carrie Ann that the performance level is going up too. Bruno says, “Whatever the spell is, keep it up, it’s working.”
CM, 9:40pm — Really Len? Three 9s and one 8.
SCORES — Carrie Ann (9), Len (8), Derek (9), Bruno (9) = 35
Amanda Kloots and Alan Bersten (“Cruella” paso doble)
DM, 9:45pm — They saved the last slot for Amanda, and she’s doing a dance style that hasn’t been 100% knocked out of the park tonight by anyone else, so they’ve really set her up well to have a great moment. And she says she’s been dying to do this dance since day one, so she should nail this.
DM, 9:48pm — Yeah that was pretty dynamite from Amanda. Great moves, great character. I think she’s getting 10s.
CM, 9:49pm — Yeah that happening.
JUDGES — Len liked the “feeling of menace,” and the interpretation from Alan. Derek thinks she played the part to “perfection,” but he’s being a little finnicky about a few of the details in the footwork. Bruno thought it was “devilishly stylish,” despite a slight misstep.” Carrie Ann thought it was “powerful,” “masterful,” and “divine.”
DM, 9:50pm — Maybe one 10 from Carrie Ann.
CM, 9:50pm — Yeah and possibly Len.

DM, 9:56pm — And the safe celebrities are … Cody Rigsby, Melora Hardin, Iman Shumpert, The Miz, and Suni Lee. Also safe: Jimmie Allen, Amanda Kloots, JoJo Siwa, and Olivia Jade. And the who’s definitely safe is Melanie C! The couple at the very bottom and eliminated immediately: Brian Austin Green. That leaves Matt James and Kenya Moore for the judges to decide between.
DM, 9:57pm — Wow! Kenya’s gonna stick around!
DM, 9:58pm — Let’s hope man.
DM, 9:58pm — Bruno chooses to save Matt James … for some reason. Derek votes to save Kenya Moore like a sane person. Carrie Ann votes to save Matt James, which is … wild to me considering their performances this season up to this point. Len votes to save Kenya, thank goodness! Because Len is the head judge, his is the deciding vote even though they were tied at two judges each. Matt James is eliminated.
DM, 10:00pm — That should not have been nearly as close as it was.
CM, 10:01pm — They would’ve regretted not getting Matt out.
DM, 10:02pm — Yeah, if he survived this double elimination, he was gonna survive for another, like, five weeks. He was probably third from the bottom. Without the double elimination I bet he would’ve been safe. But kind of wild to have a perfect elimination. Like, Brian and Matt made valiant efforts and went as far as they could. I was only mad at them because I expected them to stay at the expense of other, better celebs. Now I don’t have any bad feelings for them at all. The Curse Of Grocery Store Joe has been lifted! LOL
