Governor Abbott Defends Ban on Vaccine Mandates

Gov. Greg Abbott

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott is defending his recently announced ban on vaccine mandates by any entity in Texas, including businesses.

“The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and our best defense against the virus, but should remain voluntary and never forced,” Governor Abbott said.

The Governor joined Ernie Brown on Tuesday during WBAP’s Rick Roberts Show.

“Government has the right to protect the individual liberties of people regardless of what a business may want to do,” Governor Abbott said.

DFW based airlines, American and Southwest, said Tuesday that they are bound by President Biden’s Federal vaccine mandate. When asked why Governor Abbott would issue his order, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki pointed to “politics.”

The Governor told WBAP that his order applies to anyone living and working in Texas.

“This is a prohibition against any entity of any kind, Federal, state, or out of state entity, from requiring a Texan to be mandated to get a COVID vaccine,” he said.

Abbott also told Brown that the state is preparing for another caravan of migrants to arrive at the Texas-Mexico border.

“That includes deploying thousands of State Troopers and Texas Guard members,” Governor Abbott insisted.

The Governor referred to Biden Administration immigration policies as “dangerous” to healthcare.

In addition to the Executive Order, Governor Abbott directed lawmakers to take up legislation surrounding vaccine mandates during the current special session.

“I talked to the Lt. Governor today and he made it sound like they would get it out of the Senate,” Abbott said. “We’ve talked to the House to make sure they will get it passed out.”

According to Abbott, the legislation is “common sense” that protects the job and liberty of Texans.
