OGDEN, Utah – Weber State head football coach Jay Hill has had former Utah and Utah State coach Gary Andersen on his staff since August 27.
Now that it’s been nearly two months since Gary Andersen joined Weber State as a volunteer assistant, Jay Hill is grateful to have his former coach on board.
Andersen is back into the college football profession after getting fired at Utah State on November 7, 2020. Hill joined the Hans and Scotty G. Show on 97.5 FM/1280 AM The Zone on Tuesday for his weekly visit and talked about having Andersen on staff this season.
“Well it’s big, just his influence in my overall career and just having known him for so long and one more guy in the building with that knowledge and just understanding what other teams are doing is huge,” Hill told The Zone Sports Network. “It’s big for me and it’s big for our young assistant coaches so that’s been a big addition to us.”

Hans Olsen asked him what Andersen’s particular responsibilities are with the Wildcats.
“Obviously, talked about the best way to use him and how he can benefit the program the most and where he would feel like he was given the most,” said Hill. “So yeah, I mean, you don’t just let him wander around and help wherever, we had specific things that we thought he’d be most beneficial at.”
The Weber State head coach also mentioned to Olsen and Garrard that this is the most healthy his team has been all season. That means his starting quarterback Bronson Barron is expected to play this Saturday when they host No. 9 Montana State on Friday, October 15 at 8 p.m. MT on ESPNU.
