Detroit Red Wings draft pick Lucas Raymond will officially be on the team’s opening night roster when they hit the ice Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Little Caesars Arena.
The 2020 4th overall selection won a job after posting six points in six exhibition games and showing all the necessary signs to coaching and management that he has what it takes to make the jump to the NHL.
And he was admittedly nervous when he was called to talk to GM Steve Yzerman – almost like a kid getting sent to the principal’s office.
“He’s the boss, when he calls you in,” Raymond said before pausing. “I was for sure really nervous. I’m really happy to be able to play opening night.”
Raymond skated on the team’s top line routinely during practice, flanked by Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi.
