The greater Falmouth community is invited to join the members of John Wesley United Methodist Church in celebrating the rich musical heritage of the church on Friday, October 29, at 7 PM.
The church’s new Steinway concert grand piano will be the featured instrument and will be dedicated during the musical celebration. A freewill offering will benefit the John Wesley music ministry program. Also to be featured is the church’s recently installed Allen GeniSys G210e Organ and its three-octave set of hand bells.
Pianist Mirela Chisbora will perform "Six Piano Pieces, Op. 118" by Johannes Brahms and three pieces from "Preludes, Book 1" by Claude Debussy. Ms. Chisbora graduated from Stony Brook University with a doctoral degree in music and piano performance. She also holds a master’s of music degree in piano performance from the New England Conservatory, and a bachelor’s of music degree in piano performance from Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She has been a faculty member of the Cape Symphony, formerly known as the Cape Cod Conservatory, since 2003 and joined John Wesley in 2017 as pianist/organist.
The evening’s guest performer will be organist Robert Potterton III, who will perform "Sonata No. 3 in A Major, Op 65" by Felix Mendelssohn and "Organ Book" by Jean Langlais. Mr. Potterton has been an active keyboardist, composer and church musician in New England for more than 20 years. He earned his bachelor of music degree in composition and organ performance from Houghton College, as well as master of sacred music (organ) and master of sacred theology (liturgics) degrees from Boston University, where he studied with Peter Sykes. Since 2015, he has served as organist and choirmaster at Christ Church (Episcopal) in Fitchburg.
