Fricke leads Blair at EMC XC meet

Blair junior Dawson Fricke led the Blair Bears' efforts Thursday during the Eastern Midlands Conference Cross-Country Championships at Boys Town.
The BHS standout earned second in the boys' race, pushing his team to a fourth-place finish in the competitive, six-team conference. The girls, meanwhile, earned fifth.
The Norris Titans swept both team titles ahead of second-place Bennington.
Fricke clocked in at 17:19.23 after 5-kilometers at Boys Town. He was about 19 seconds behind first-place Riley Boonstra, the Titans' leader.
The Bears' Calin O'Grady, meanwhile, was 11th, picking up an EMC medal in 18:24.06. Zyler Wyman was 17th, Zac Keeling earned 27th and Nick Wayman took 28th to round out the Blair finishers.
Norris' Kendall Zavala won the conference girls race in 20:08.87, topping a field that included BHS' Chloe Schrick in eighth. The Bear clocked in at 20:46.97, while Kaitlynn Amandus was 16th in 21:45.57. Allie Czapla added a 17th-place finish in 21:46.54, while Hailey Amandus was 26th and Sophia Baedke was 28th.
Blair next competes Thursday during the Class B2 District meet at Elkhorn Mount Michael. The girls' race starts at 4:30 p.m. before the boys' at 5. Top performances will earn Class B state qualifications.
