Apple ‘Unleashed’ event set for October 18, new Macs expected

As expected, one fall event was not enough for Apple, it turns out. There have been rumors swirling around for quite some time that Apple planned on hosting another sometime in October, and it turns out they were true. And sure enough, the event invites have gone out.

Apple has confirmed today that it will be hosting its next event on Monday, October 18, 2021. “Unleashed” is how Apple’s describing the upcoming event, which will start at 10:00 AM PDT/1:00 PM EDT. The event makes it look like we’re speeding along in warp speed in the Star Wars universe, not necessarily a hint at any products coming down the line, though.

Here’s the invite, as posted on Twitter from Apple’s Greg Joswiak:

What’s Apple going to unleash?

MacBook Pro

There are a few options, based on the rumor mill’s expectations. First and foremost, we’re apparently going to get not only a brand new MacBook Pro with a 16-inch display, which will be equipped with an all-new “M1X” processor, but also a brand new 14-inch MacBook Pro as well. The latter of the two new laptops is said to feature a slight design change, with slightly smaller bezels to accommodate the different screen size.

In addition to that, it’s believed that the new MacBook Pro model(s) will reintroduce the MagSafe charging feature for Apple’s laptop lineup. This will replace USB-C for charging if this particular rumor pans out. Previous rumors have also said the new laptop will bring back an SD card reader, as well as an HDMI port. Finally, the new MacBook Pro is said to drop the Touch Bar, going back to a physical row of function keys.

Headphones?

That’s not all, though. It was originally thought that Apple was going to announce the brand new AirPods 3, which will feature an AirPods Pro-inspired design, at the iPhone 13 event. That didn’t happen, though. So it’s possible that this upcoming unleashed event will finally see the new truly wireless headphones arrive.

And maybe there’s even more coming.
