New ‘Scream,’ ‘Home Alone’ remake trailers prove your favorite movies will never die

2022's "Scream" will be the fifth movie in the "Scream" franchise about a masked killer known as Ghostface.

Is Hollywood out of ideas, or just cashing in on nostalgia? Two new movie trailers released Tuesday prove your favorite films will never die.

The first trailer for “Scream 5,” officially titled simply “Scream” — yes, the same name as the 1996 original horror flick — brings back Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette for a horror reboot/sequel/requel that will carry on late creator Wes Craven’s legacy. They’ll face the Ghostface killer alongside “Scream 4″ cast member Marley Shelton and a new cast that includes Melissa Barrera (”In the Heights”), Dylan Minnette (“13 Reasons Why”), Jack Quaid (“The Boys”), Jenna Ortega (“Yes Day”), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“The Leftovers”), and Mason Gooding (“Dear White People”).

“Scream” will open in theaters Jan. 14, 2022. The new chapter in the popular slasher franchise is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (”Ready or Not”); written by James Vanderbilt (”Zodiac”) and Guy Busick (”Ready or Not”); and executive produced by original “Scream” writer Kevin Williamson.

Slightly less horrifying — depending on your definition of horror — is the first trailer for “Home Sweet Home Alone,” a reimagining of the 1990 holiday classic “Home Alone.”

Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney star as two bumbling thieves who target a house where a young boy named Max (”Jojo Rabbit” actor Archie Yates) was accidentally left home alone by his family over the Christmas holiday. Like Kevin McAllister (Macaulay Culkin) did before him, Max will lay out a series of booby traps to protect a priceless heirloom.

Culkin, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern will not be reprising their roles, but Devin Ratray, who played Kevin’s older brother Buzz, is part of the cast alongside Aisling Bea, Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons, Pete Holmes, Ally Maki, and Chris Parnell.

“Home Sweet Home Alone,” directed by Dan Mazer on a script from Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell based on John Hughes’ original screenplay, will premiere Nov. 12 on the Disney+ streaming service.

And if you’re thirsty for more reboots and revivals, Deadline reports Disney+ is also working on new versions of “Cheaper by the Dozen,” “Night at Museum,” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”
