Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has revealed that Charity Dingle could drown in shocking scenes to air during Super Soap Week next week.

As a number of villagers take part in Ellis Chapman (Aaron Anthony) and Priya Kotecha's (Fiona Wade) big survival challenge, a series of horrific events will rock the participants, with at least one character set to lose their life during the week.

One person who could be in danger is Charity (Emma Atkins), as she and on-off lover Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) take part in the challenge.

The troublesome pair decide to separate themselves from their respective groups so that they can cheat and they meet up in the forest to discuss their game plan.

However, after the two are separated, Mack hears a loud scream come from the edge of a pond.

As he approaches the pond to investigate, he sees large ripples moving across the water. It looks like Charity could have vanished beneath the surface – but has she fallen into the pond?

Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks recently revealed to Digital Spy and other media that next week's high-octane episodes will be a "non-stop adrenaline rush from the very start", with a number of dramatic stunts due to air.

Brooks has promised "a white knuckle ride through the icy rapids that will plunge some of our well-loved characters into peril", as well as a "'never been seen on soap before' waterfall stunt" and "two other massive, top-secret, heart-stopping stunts" that have yet to be revealed.

The producer wouldn't be drawn on exactly which characters will be losing their lives, but she did reveal that "we don't take these decisions lightly" and that choices were made based on the opportunity for future storylines.

"It's always story-driven, it's always character-led," she said. "We wanted to make sure that every kill has impact and changes people, and the outcome isn't always what you'd expect or indeed hope.

"It's always difficult and it's hard to gauge who the right character would be, but it comes very much from a story point of view and what gives us the most going forward."

Emmerdale airs these scenes in the week commencing Monday, October 18 on ITV.
