The 2021-22 season has not yet even begun and already the Toronto Maple Leafs are dealing with their fair share of adversity.
Last week, the Leafs lost forward
Ilya Mikheyev for a minimum of eight weeks due to a broken thumb, which required surgery to repair, and just a few short days later, they lost an important depth player in center
Adam Brooks to the Montreal Canadiens on waivers.
To top that off, superstar forward
Auston Matthews is still not 100% after having offseason wrist surgery and is expected to miss at least the first three games of the season as a result.
While these issues all carry varying levels of significance for the Leafs, there is yet another concern to add to the plate on Tuesday after top line winger
Mitch Marner left practice early with a trainer after being tripped up by teammate Wayne Simmonds.

Marner reportedly went down quite hard, and after briefly conferring with head coach Sheldon Keefe, the 24-year-old was forced to call it quits for the day.
There has been no update on Marner's status for Wednesday's season opener as of yet, but if he is forced to miss time, that could impact Toronto's ability to bank some valuable points in what should be a very tough Atlantic Division.
